That's a strong metaphor. I take it you have never been literally attacked
by a literal predator. I have. Trust me, it's nothing at all like a
metaphor. You need bandages later, and your clothes need laundered and/or
replaced. I think what you're really trying to say here is that you have
seen pixels arranged on a screen in a manner that displeases you. Get used
to it. It comes with the address.
Another possibility is that you are not being attacked. Perhaps what you
are really getting is sound advice, not about your character, but about
your cognitive processes. That's what I'm doing. I'm not attacking you, or
your character. I'm criticizing certain flaws in your reasoning, and I'm
doing it for your own good. I'm also criticizing certain aspects of your
interpersonal relationships here. It's constructive criticism. I'm not
trying to hurt you. I'm trying to help you make better use of your time
and your brain, just because you are a fellow human being and helping each
other is what best behooves us all. I can't speak for anybody else, only
for myself. Maybe they're trying to hurt you. I dunno. This I do know. I
couldn't hurt you even if I wanted to. I don't know where you live, I
don't know what you look like, and I'm probably thousands of miles away.
If pixels on a screen can hurt your feelings, then I humbly and
constructively suggest that you rethink their role in your life. If that
means altering some aspect of your "character," then by all means do it.
Personally, I think that the really smart way to live is to continue to
grow. When somebody correctly points out to how I was doing something
really dumb and it was getting me hurt, I (1.) stop doing it and (2.)
thank them.
That's how I do it. Dumb people do it differently. It takes all kinds.
But you're better off if you do it the way smart people do it than you
are if you do it the way that dumb people do it. IMHO. But it's your life.
It's your choice. Do it any way you want. You have the right to do it the
dumb way if that's what you really want. You'll certainly have plenty of
company. But if you get your feelings hurt because you didn't take my
advice, don't come crying to me later 'cuz all you're gonna get is "I told
you so."
