I have commented before on the conflict of interest issue in these cases, which is significant. The idea of property being taken is abhorrent to me, but if one wanted to make a case for it they could, BUT the fact that what is siezed goes to the people who sieze it opens up too many cans of worms and introduces the possibility of tainted evidence and fraudulent warrants and the use of this for other than legitimate ends. The drug war has many casualties, mainly innocents lost at the hands of criminals, AND law enforcement, especially since the kingpins are never touched, and the government may be one of the biggest dealers/backers in the whole enterprise.
