INSIDE CLINTONS' WEIRD MARRIAGE
A NEW book is set to lift the lid off some of the weirder secrets
of Bill and Hillary Clinton's ever-complicated marriage.
Among the claims made by biographer Jerry Oppenheimer in "State
of a Union: Inside the Complex Marriage of Bill and Hillary
Clinton" are:
* "Willard," the pet name for the presidential penis bestowed by
former Clinton paramour Gennifer Flowers, was an inside joke
referring to Hillary's late uncle Willard, a roly-poly loner who
died while sitting on his toilet in 1965.
* Bill nearly left Hillary during his first congressional race in
Arkansas for a sexy campaign worker, but stayed with Hillary
because he believed her superior political savvy would help him
attain his ultimate goal of becoming president.
* Despite present-day rumors of an icy romantic relationship,
Bill and Hillary were infamous around the Yale campus for having
a "hot sexual relationship."
Oppenheimer told PAGE SIX he interviewed scores of friends,
relatives and associates of the Clintons to unearth tidbits such
as the origin of "Willard" (also the name of the talking
presidential penis in Joe Eszterhas' talked-about tome "American
Rhapsody.")
Oppenheimer writes that the real Willard keeled over after
suffering a heart attack. But Hillary's brother Tony Rodham told
the author he thinks his uncle, a tubby bachelor who lived with
his parents, "died of loneliness" at 57 after his father passed
away.
Oppenheimer also interviewed the woman he says nearly broke up
Bill and Hillary just before they were married. "After 25 years
of hiding from the media, she finally came out and talked on the
record," he said.
"She told me how she viewed Bill and Hillary's relationship as
more of a political alliance than a romantic love affair. Bill's
mother Virginia Kelly was really very fond of this woman and
really despised Hillary," Oppenheimer says of Hillary's rival,
whose name will be revealed in the book that's due in stores on
July 18.
"Hillary was like an alien creature to Virginia. But this other
woman was the epitome of the Arkansas woman. She wore sexy
clothes and was very bright and insightful.
"But eventually Hillary was able to convince Bill that she was
the better political partner. They had forged a pact even before
they were married that their ultimate goal was the White House."
