There's another factor behind the continued "War on Drugs": the flow of
money from drug traffickers to politicians. The criminal drug trade could
not continue to exist without laws making it illegal. The laws making it
illegal could not exist without the politicians who keep voting to extend
those laws. The politicians know damn well that the laws don't work to
restrict drug use, but they keep responding to their contributors, namely
the drug traffickers, by re-enacting the laws which protect their shared
monopoly. Look for the politicians who are most vociferous in their demands
to prosecute the war on drugs; look at the sources of their campaign
contributions; and follow the money.
