But clemency is also being sought by Jonathan Pollard, the American who spied for Israel. * Word is the feds are worried Clinton may pardon Pollard, who has spent 14 years in prison for delivering U.S. secrets to Israel. * Fact: It's been reported no other spy for a U.S. ally has done more than 10 years in prison. Israel accepted legal responsibility for Pollard in 1998 after denying for 12 years he was its spy. * Fact: Last year, Pollard filed a petition in the Israeli Supreme Court against Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, demanding Israel discharge its responsibility to him and secure his freedom. Former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sought Pollard's release . . . and now that Barak is embroiled in a contest to save his political future . . . and Netanyahu appears to be back on the fast track . . . will Pollard's plea be heeded? Bush wants Attorney General Janet Reno out of office as soon as possible and may appoint an interim director until Bush finds a permanent replacement. * To wit: FBI director Louis Freeh, who is this/close to the Bush family, may be tapped to fill that spot on an interim basis . . . before heading into a lucrative job in the private sector. Dubya doings . . . It's confirmed. President-elect Bush wants a toned-down inaugural bash. Pssst! Pssst! . . . The latest Dubya rumble: Bush appointing a Dem senator--from a state where the governor is Republican--to his cabinet, thereby breaking the 50-50 stalemate in the U.S. Senate. How? The GOP governor would appoint a new GOP senator. * Possible contenders: Sens. John Breaux, Joe Lieberman, Robert Torricelli. A reverse squelch . . . Oops!: A ton of Sneed readers pointed out Sneed was an hour behind in her comments on "The West Wing" star Martin Sheen, a top Clinton/Gore supporter, Wednesday. Instead of allowing real presidential news, Gore's speech, to cut in during the show, NBC decided at the last minute to air an old episode an hour before Al Gore's concession speech and push its holiday episode to next week.
