Also try Jack Weatherford's "Savages and Civilization", Orenstein and
Burke's "The Axemakers Gift". These are not technical at all, easy to
understand concepts. The point being that all the "isms" don't apply
where the rubber meets the road. Even a cursory look at the Amish
enclaves in this country will show that the lack of government does not
mean the lack of civilization.

While I have not been on this list long enough to know you, I can in
general agree with the above. I would make the equation: Read, think,
read, think, talk, think, talk, read, etc. I have taken courses in
evolution, archaeology and anthropology with people who, tho they passed
the tests, did not believe a word of what was taught. Amazing!!! They
went into these courses with a set ideology and preconceptions and
nothing presented could change that. I don't claim to be the sharpest
tack in the box, but I do listen and learn. I understand that there are
different points of view based on the same facts, and that is good.
However, the problem of labeling people, then making the facts support
that label is common. Try some non-linear thought processes. Stretch
your mind to include the principal that you could be wrong.
