If only this were true, things would be far simpler. Of course, it is
partly true but if you look a little more closely you might even say
that Mozart was an abused child. Bad parents often have good
children and the best, most loving and kindly parents often see
their kids turn out badly. Having kids is like playing craps.
Does anyone remember A.S.Neil and Summerhill. It was big in the
late 60s and early 70s. It was based on some of the suggestions
you make regarding raising children. So wonderful. So ideal. Did it
work? Perhaps for some. I thought it should work--but my own kids
have never forgiven me. On the other hand, I know parents who
thrived on the daily humiliation of their children and their kids have
turned out rather well. I think the mistake your making is putting it
all on the parents. It really does take a village and if the village --
and the general culture--is operating on another wave length, then
these "loving" parents may not be preparing their kids to deal with
"reality."
