This is a good example of how we get stampeded into passing some very
stupid laws.  Take a horrible example (preferably where a child is the
victim) and whip up public sentiment to the point where you can get the
most egregious laws, rules or regulations passed.  MADD has taken a real
problem and whipped everyone up to the frenzy of the 0.8 DUI.  Megan's
Law was passed in the same way, and is so egregious that it is under
attack everywhere.  The rash of school shootings have made possible the
enactment of laws, rules and regulations that would never have been
passed in calm times.

 Look at the article in Scientific American (January, 2001, pg 19, "Pink
Slip in your Genes") and see what can come of mass genetic testing.  In
this case the donors would have to be identified individually.  Do you
think the results, reports, samples etc will be destroyed after the case
is closed?   What should be a boon to mankind is being perverted into a
threat.  Why?  As the article points out, it is the old profit motive.
