I forget the source, but it was on the TV news the other day that journalists
had found that natural gas (which fuels most of the power generated in
California) was secretly being sold by Enron and BP to foreign countries at
prices far lower than the lowest rate charged US power companies, whom
they've been apparently gouging for years while claiming they're losing money
and desperately need rate increases (which of course get passed on to
consumers by the ISOs [themselves perhaps the greediest profit-mongers
around, judging by what I often get to see in my confidential
litigation-support work] ...
I like the proposal of the SF Greens, offered publicly and carried by local
TV -- "fiscal disobedience." Whatever percent increases the "regulatory
agencies" permit, DEDUCT f rom what you pay when billed! They can't turn off
the lights if you still pay, say, 90% of your bill each month ... FORCE
those parasites into bankruptcy, to keep 'em honest!
No more corporate welfare for the richest of the rich each & every time they
cry "wolf"!
