Tell your friends -- forward this message! http://on.linkexchange.com/?ATID=27&AID=2144 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi everybody -- Over the last few months, dozens of you have emailed to ask what I'm working on, when I'll resume writing The Scoop, when will I do another morning radio show, and so on. Thanks for all that. I wish I could write everyone back in person. Thanks. I've also noticed that about a hundred new subscribers have joined the list since my note explaining that the column is on hold. Apparently somebody forwarded you guys old columns or something. You might wonder why you joined a list that never sends out anything. So here's a quick update for anyone who's curious... The Scoop remains on indefinite hiatus. I have no idea when I'll return to it, although getting a print version of my radio commentaries syndicated to newspapers (and at the same time online) is one of the things I'm working on. So when it does return, it'll probably be in that form. Meanwhile, Will Durst, Laura Flanders, Jim Hightower, Molly Ivins, Norman Solomon, and numerous other fine folks cover everything with enough insight and wit that my columns shouldn't be terribly missed. I'm sure you'll find a ton of stuff you'll enjoy at least as much in the massive bunch of links available at Common Dreams. (The URLs for all the sites mentioned are below.) That said, I'm still working my keister off. If you'd like to see and hear my current and upcoming stuff, here's how: The syndicated radio stuff is still airing on roughly 75 stations in the U.S. You can find an updated list of stations when I get finish updating my website in about two weeks. If you're somewhere outside the U.S., Armed Forces Radio now runs most of my rants worldwide four times a day. Why they do this, honestly, I have no idea, but it's fun getting email from Botswana. For online samples of my radio stuff, check out Soapbox, which also carries comments from a bunch of other folks I admire. They update the site with a new RealAudio commentary by yours truly every Monday. I'm doing the voice of Sparky the penguin in the Flash-animated version of Tom Tomorrow's "This Modern World" cartoons, and of late, I'm writing a few of the episodes as well. (Check out the upcoming two-parter where Blinky, the cute little dog, accidentally becomes a billion-dollar IPO.) I adore that strip and consider this more of a privilege than a job. We're trying to get it set up as a regular feature on one of the cable networks. A full season of my Flash comedy game show, "Twisted," is now completed. After various dot-com delays, the show is now allegedly going to premiere in February. I've got some pretty heavy partners on this, and I'd place the chance of getting this on TV in a reasonably intact and respectable form at better than even money. So check out Icebox.com in the coming weeks. There's a new form of radio brewing, a satellite-based subscriber system which is essentially the radio analog to cable TV. The main player in this business is Sirius Radio, and there's an excellent chance I'll be doing a longform radio show with them sometime soon. I can't say much, but those of you who miss the old morning show should get a kick out of this. Stay tuned. Fox TV is doing a spin-off of "The X-Files" featuring the three conspiracy nuts frequently consulted by Scully and Mulder. "The Lone Gunmen" debuts soon. My part here is small but fun: I'm co-authoring (with Jane Espenson of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") the comic book based on the series. We're squeezing in real stuff that's actually happening as much as possible. This is new and a total blast. More info will be on the website when the comic hits the stands. And so on. It may all seem a bit disconnected, but there's a common thread: it dawned on me a few months ago that a single episode of "The West Wing" often reaches more people with the populist side of a civil rights or health care or environmental issue than I ever have in a hundred columns. Granted, theirs isn't a detailed analysis, but the fact remains, like it or not. And -- more to the point -- one can seize the opportunity or not. I'm fortunate enough to have some chances to do some cool stuff that might get what I write about in front of a lot more people. And so that's what I'm doing. Whether it does any good or not, we'll all find out together. These are the baby steps so far. In any case, I hope you'll enjoy all the stuff that's on the way. Thanks again for the many kind words. Best wishes, Bob Harris PS -- to those of you who joined in giving your Christmas to people who needed it more that you did, applause, blessings, and yippee! And thanks for the notes from you guys who donated to the charities I mentioned on the website. Finding stuff like that in the Inbox just ruled...
