Hillary: Pardon Reform for Thee But Not for Me
Senate diva Hillary Clinton supports new reforms to tighten up
disclosure requirements covering gift-giving fat cats seeking
presidential pardons -- but only as long as the rules aren't made
retroactive to cover her and her husband's own White House pardon
spree.
"I signed on to a bill that states an important principle that
obviously is prospective and doesn't look back into previous
administrations," she said Thursday. "And I thought that was a
good idea."
The bill Mrs. Clinton is co-sponsoring along with Sen. Arlen
Specter (R-Pa.) requires full disclosure of anyone lobbying for a
presidential pardon, including donors of $5,000 or more to
presidential libraries.
But Bill and Hillary have expressly refused to release the names
of contributors to the William J. Clinton Presidential Library
Foundation, which has a price tag pegged at $200 million.
When asked why she didn't comply with the spirit of the law and
release the names of Clinton library donors, Sen. Clinton told
reporters, "I think that's being dealt with and the names have
been given over to the proper authorities."
Another closely guarded secret the Clintons won't reveal: the
number of visits Pardongate kingpin Denise Rich made to the White
House.
House Government Reform and Oversight Committee spokesman Mark
Corallo told NewsMax.com last month that Secret Service visitor
logs for Rich and others were incomplete, with records showing
her entering the building a number of times without departing and
vice versa.
Mrs. Clinton has also steadfastly refused to reveal the dates of
hundreds of White House sleepovers by contributors to both her
and her husband's political campaigns.
NewsMax.com reviewed records for overnights covering about two
thirds of the Clintons' term and found no sleepovers by Denise
Rich.
Of the dozens of reports on Mrs. Clinton's new support for
pardon reform, only New York's Newsday noted her insistence that
the Clinton administration be exempted.
In fact, Clinton herself helped write the legislation, though
neither she nor Sen. Specter would say who was responsible for
the law's Clinton administration loophole.
