Peace at any cost is a Prelude to War!

Loss of Morality Portends Loss of Freedom
By Chuck Baldwin
May 22, 2001

People (and courts) today define liberty as the exercise of uncontrolled
passions. However, the unrestricted exercise of debauchery serves only to
assail not assist freedom. As John Adams said, "We have no government armed
with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality
and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge . would break the strongest cords
of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made
only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the
government of any other."

Without inward morality, constitutional government is totally non-existent.
The rule of constitutional law over the affairs of men is absolutely
dependent upon the rule of divine law within men's hearts. The breakdown of
the latter quickly leads to the breakdown of the former. That is where the
United States is now.

Divine law has little, if any, influence over our society today. Can we not
expect, then, that despotism and tyranny will be the natural result? With
the meltdown of Biblical morality comes (at once) an increase in perversity
and oppression. The two are inseparable twins. To find one is to find each.

Look at the way government approaches problem-solving today. The answers
recommended by both major parties are tolerance of evil and ever-burgeoning
government bureaucracies. The two parties argue only about how much to
increase the stranglehold of government authority. Neither party will
address the fundamental issues of Biblical morality and personal
responsibility.

For example, America's education problems will never be fixed until
evolution and humanism are removed as its cornerstone doctrines. Dubya's
desire to throw billions of additional tax dollars into public education
without addressing its intrinsic, fundamental shortcomings serves only to
perpetuate a policy already proven to fail.

Likewise, Bush has chosen to continue to violate the fundamental principle
of private property ownership and local control of property matters by
refusing to dismantle Clinton's unconstitutional land grabs and his
egregious environmental edicts. This further perpetuates socialism and
discourages limited government and personal freedom.

Then, in an all-too-familiar theme, President Bush just recently praised
Lyndon Johnson's Great Society proposals and Jimmy Carter's welfare programs
as he pledged more than $1.6 billion in new federal spending for the "war
against poverty." Once again, the fundamental laws taught by divine
revelation are ignored, while government flaunts itself as man's provider.

And once again, leaders of both parties seem determined to cater and
accommodate sexual perversion. While claiming to believe in "family values,"
they ignore both holy writ and history to demonstrate "tolerance" for those
things that are intolerable. This they do without shame and (even more
sadly) without much challenge from pew or pulpit.

Business leaders are just as guilty. The unbridled lust for greed and
profits obfuscate not only the feelings of fairness and equity, but also the
priorities of patriotism and national security. The Democrat's love of big
government and the Republican's love of big business are equally
destructive. Both ignore inward morality and divine revelation. Therefore,
both serve the taskmaster of unbridled passion.

Tyrants have many faces; freedom has only one: inward morality that is
predicated upon personal faith. If we really cared about preserving liberty,
this would be our unflinching message.
