-Caveat Lector-
In all my research on WWII I have never heard of this. At the beginning of
the war German agents did infiltrate the country (some were landed on the
Jersey coast, some in Florida/the Gulf coast(?) ) but they never got far.
The Jersey landings were discovered by a shore patrol unit and the agents
themselves were not very good "spies". They were either Germans who had
emigrated to America or Americans of German descent. Off the top of my head
I can remember two groups, one went to Chicago to get organized, ended up
spending a lot of their supplied money on clothing and female companionship
and got drunk in the neighborhood bars and spoke of their mission. The other
went to NYC and did something similar.
