They used to tell us that we were so lucky to have won WWII, because if we had lost, that was what was going to happen to us. I don't know if Hitler is alive and well, but his philosophy has survived and is part and parcel of conservative thought. It's always encouraging to hear the Canadians acting in such a stupid way. When one visits Toronto, one comes away with the fear that Canadians must be really brilliant to have such great transportation, such wonderful theaters, such great restaurants. There's a nasty worry--something like a little voice saying (why can't we have this in the States?). So when the powers that be are worried because a guy watches Penthouse like porn in the privacy of his quarters during off-duty hours, it feels good to know there are as many kooks there as here. Those kinds of little minds will keep Canada down never fear.
