WASHINGTON - Did Bill and Hillary Clinton move into the White House and stay there so
long - because a personal hit squad was rubbing out their enemies?
A lot of people are convinced that's the case, because so many men, women and children
have died under suspicious circumstances after reputedly crossing the Arkansas wonders.
And all the doubting Thomases aren't members of the notorious "vast right-wing
conspiracy" - if there ever was one - blamed by the former First Lady for the non-stop
scandals that stalked the Clinton presidency.
Paula Jones seemed to echo the sentiment of other frightened survivors of the
reputedly ruthless purge when she announced on CNN: "If I come up strangely dead, I
didn't kill myself."
A look at a few of the casualties, provides stark evidence that hanging around Bill
and Hillary Clinton could be a kiss of death - whether or not it was only tragic
coincidence, or a more sinister conspiracy.
These are some of the more than 90 people who have died of Arkansas Sudden Death
Syndrome:
Vince Foster - The deputy White House counsel was found shot to death in an Arlington,
Va., park. Authorities ruled the death was a suicide. But there were indications
Foster, 48, was dumped there after being shot elsewhere, and physical evidence at the
scene was inconsistent with suicide. "It looks like someone faked it," said forensic
expert Masoob Ayub. And FBI and Secret Service agents reportedly uncovered a long-time
affair between Hillary and the father of three which provided a motive. When Jerry
Parks saw a TV newscast about Foster's mystery death, the private detective turned to
his son and announced: "I'm a dead man." Parks was head of Gov. Clinton's security
detail in Arkansas when Hillary asked Foster to keep an eye on her husband's
philandering. Foster passed the job to Parks, who collected a pile of incriminating
videotapes and photos. Two months after Foster's death, Parks was gunned down in a
drive-by shooting. Then federal agents carted off his files and computer discs.
James McDougal, Whitewater partner of the Clintons, made a tell-all deal with
prosecutors - then dropped dead of a heart attack after being tossed into solitary
confinement at a federal prison medical center in Fort Worth, Tex. McDougal's death
scuttled any chances of a successful prosecution of the Clintons by Independent
Prosecutor Kenneth Starr.
Kevin Ives and Don Henry, teenage pals believed to have witnessed a cocaine drop at
Mena, Ark., were chopped up by a train in 1987. The state medical examiner, a Clinton
appointee, ruled accidental death. But when suspicious relatives had the bodies
exhumed, an independent examination disclosed that Henry was stabbed and Kevin's skull
was smashed with a rifle butt before they were hit by the train.
Six Arkansas residents claimed to know things about the deaths, and all died before
they could testify - from stabbing, shotgunning, burns or decapitation, according to a
report in High Times.
State Police Investi-gator Russell Welsh was probing drug running and money laundering
when he was fatally poisoned with anthrax.
Barry Seal, a soldier-of-fortune linked to the Mena operation while Clinton was
governor, was gunned down by Colombian hit men outside a halfway house in Baton Rouge,
La. Seal, who was reportedly seen dining with Clinton, had turned snitch and predicted
his own murder.
Suzanne Coleman's death was ruled a suicide after the pregnant woman was found shot in
the back of the head with a shotgun. She had revealed an affair with Clinton beginning
when he was her law school instructor.
Judi Gibbs, 32, a glamorous redhead who danced at a Hot Springs topless bar and
boasted she and Clinton were lovers, burned to death with her boyfriend when fire
destroyed her Fordyce mansion. By that time she was running a ritzy call-girl
operation. Clinton flew over the ruins of the mansion and reportedly told a bodyguard
that one of the most beautiful women he ever met had lived there.
U.S. Commerce Secretary Ron Brown was under investigation for big-time financial
shenanigans and influence peddling when his airplane mysteriously crashed during a
trade mission to Croatia. The former National Democratic Party chairman and
wheeler-dealer had reportedly warned, "I won't go down alone if this thing gets blown
open." Curiously, a cylindrical hole in the top of Brown's head was described by
medical examiners as typical of a .45-caliber bullet wound.
Stewardess Shelly Kelly, the only person to survive the crash, walked unaided to a
rescue helicopter. But she was dead on arrival at a Dubrovnik hospital. An autopsy
revealed a neatly slashed femoral artery - an injury she reputedly didn't have when
she boarded the chopper. Brown's lawyer was killed the day after the crash in a
drive-by shooting.
Mary Mahoney, a former White House intern with Monica Lewinsky, was reportedly
planning to spill her guts about sexual harassment, when she was killed with two other
Starbucks employees in a reputed robbery. Her body was riddled with five shots only
three days after Monica threatened to tell her parents about her seamy sex flings with
Clinton. Conspiracy theorists speculated that Mary's death was a warning to Monica to
keep her mouth shut.
Kathy Ferguson, the ex-wife of a state trooper who took Paula Jones to Clinton's motel
room in Little Rock, Ark., was shot in the back of the head. Mrs. Ferguson was
planning to testify as a witness for Paula. The death was ruled a suicide.
Bill Shelton, Kathy's boyfriend, loudly insisted she didn't kill herself. A month
later he was shot in the back of the head in another "suicide."
Steve Willis, Robert Williams, Conway LeBleu and Todd McKeehan were agents with the
federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms when they served on Clinton's
protection unit while he was campaigning for the presidency. They were the only
federal agents killed during the bloody raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco,
Tex.
Ron Miller, 58, who blew the whistle on a couple who were frequent White House guests
and deeply involved in illegal campaign contributions, died after testifying in the
case. The Oklahoma businessman, had received death threats, and is believed to have
been deliberatively poisoned by a rare airborne toxin.
