REVEALED: ROGER'S ROGUES' GALLERY

June 29, 2001 -- Former First Brother Roger Clinton discussed possible
presidental pardons with a rogues' gallery of crooks, forgers, tax cheats,
and drug dealers, congressional investigators are charging.
Probers for the congressional committee investigating former President Bill
Clinton's last-minute pardon spree asked his half-brother in a letter on
Monday for information about his role in requesting executive clemency for
six shady characters.
They also asked Roger for information about $250,000 in mysterious bank
deposits he made in 1998 and 1999.
The Investigators claimed he made three huge deposits of travelers' checks,
some of which were purchased in either Taiwan or Venezuela.
The alleged Clinton pardon pals singled out by the probers include:
* Kentucky horse breeder J.T. Lundy, who is serving a 41/2-year sentence
for bank fraud and bribery.
Lundy's Calumet Farm - one of the most famous horse farms in Kentucky -
collected $20 million in insurance money after Triple Crown runner-up
Alydar mysteriously broke a leg in 1990 and had to be destroyed. That case
was not involved in Lundy's conviction.
Sources said Lundy and Roger Clinton discussed a pardon, but Lundy made no
payments to him.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, who is investigating allegations
that Roger promised pardons for cash, is looking into Lundy's relationship
with him, sources said.
* Houston developer John Ballis, who served a jail term for giving
kickbacks to a bank to get $7 million in loans. He later forged papers to
try to fool a grand jury.
Ballis' lawyer, Gerald Goldstein, didn't know if his client sought a pardon
through Roger Clinton, but he said Ballis once lived in Little Rock, where
he was on a "first-name basis" with the Clintons.
* Texas businessman Henry Blume Loe, who was jailed for cheating the IRS
out of taxes on millions of dollars in income from his 1,000-slip marina.
* Mark St. Pe, jailed in 1994 in Louisiana on drug and firearms charges.
* Steve Griggs. No details were available.
* New Jersey heroin dealer Rosario Gambino, who is serving a 45-year
sentence. At his 1984 trial, prosecutors said he was linked to New York's
Gambino crime family - a charge he denied.
The congressional probers said Roger received a $50,000 check from a
company owned by Gambino's children.
In Washington yesterday, Bill Clinton refused to answer questions about the
Gambino check. "I don't have anything to say about that," he said.
Roger's lawyer, Bart Williams, confirmed to The Post that Roger got money
from the Gambinos, but denied it was for "any help" with a pardon request.
He also denied that any of the others on the congressional list gave Roger
money.
Williams said the mysterious deposits of travelers checks were payment for
concerts that Roger, a rocker wannabe, gave in such far-flung locales as
South Korea and Kazakhstan.
Williams told Congress that Roger "declined" to respond to probers'
questions.
An investigator for the House told The Post, "The documents show that Roger
Clinton sought pardons from some of these people and that others asked
Roger for help obtaining a pardon."
None of the people received pardons.
