JUDICIAL WATCH FILES HOUSE ETHICS COMPLAINT AGAINST CONGRESSMAN GARY CONDIT
Public Interest Group Calls For His Reprimand and Resignation
(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that
investigates and prosecutes public abuse and corruption, today will file an
ethics complaint before the House of Representatives Ethics Committee
against Congressman Gary Condit.
"It is clear Congressman Condit lied about his relationship with Chandra
Levy to the police, the media and others. In addition, as a U.S.
Congressman, and as a human being, Congressman Condit owed a duty and
responsibility to do whatever he could to help the Levy family find
Chandra. Rather than doing this, he put his own interests first and
foremost and covered up his relationship - thereby depriving the police of
vital information necessary to find the still missing young lady. The
evidence also shows the Congressman may have suborned perjury. As a result,
he has brought discredit upon the House of Representatives and should be,
at a minimum, reprimanded. However, under the circumstances, the right
thing for Mr. Condit to do is to simply resign," stated Judicial Watch
President Tom Fitton.
"The conduct of the D.C. Police Department has also been reprehensible,
insofar as it has protected Mr. Condit and not treated him as a suspect in
the Chandra Levy investigation. It shows how there is a dual-class society
in the United States; politicians have become the new American nobility who
can act and be treated as if they are above the law - while the rest of the
American people are treated as second-class citizens. Accordingly, Judicial
Watch will be filing a complaint against the D.C. Police Department and
will also take appropriate action against its officials for their
dereliction of duty," added Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel
Larry Klayman.
