They do care about democratic credibility. The proof is at election time.
They spend enormous amounts of money convincing the populace that it's
important to vote, and that their vote counts.

The reason is simple. If you believe that you live in a democracy, then
whatever happens is not the fault of the Elites. It's the fault of the voters
for electing the wrong people. The voting population sees the next election
day as the time to ' fix ' the system by electing someone else. This is MUCH
cheaper than maintaining a large force to keep the dumb worker bees in line.

But now this all is changing. Thanks to the NET, the scales are dropping from
everyone's eyes. And, we lucked out in the 2000 election with the installation
of retarded Shrub by the Conservative Supreme Court.

Things will get worse before they get better, but the status quo IS crumbling.
