-Caveat Lector-
The problem is, is that formula companies have the money to sponsor
studies like this, to buy government officials, and to finance
hard-sell advertising campaigns touting the benefits of formula.
Breastfeeding mothers do not have this money and have only
word-of-mouth to counteract the huge propaganda campaign mounted by the
formula companies. Note too, that National Breastfeeding Week took
place August 1-7, and every year, we can count on the formula companies
putting out a piece on either a) the greatness of formual, or b) the
hazards of breastfeeding. I remember Prime Time Live during one
National Breastfeeding Week (mid 90s) had a story about breastfed
babies getting dehydrated -- turns out the mothers were having problems
with latch-on and did not seek help until it was too late -- but during
the show, I noticed FIVE commercials for Carnation Good Start formula.

If there are any pregnant women or new mothers on the list who need
info/support/advice about breastfeeding, feel free to email me off
list. I nursed both of my sons and they are 2 of the healthiest kids in
town.
