-Caveat Lector-
Time for a Change in Immigration Law

In 1965, our immigration laws were radically changed. Ever since, the floodgates have
been open and people have been allowed into our country faster than they can be
assimilated into our culture. As pressure builds, more and more citizens are realizing
that something has to be done.
Today, approximately 80% of Americans want to severely limit or totally close down
immigration for a period of time to allow for current immigrant assimilation. They
also want to strictly enforce our laws against illegal immigrants. The percentage of
the population with this view has been growing for the last five years. With all the
talk about our immigration problems, the advocacy for something to be done, and the
reports coming out of the 2000 census showing our situation is worse than anyone
thought, finally the politicians are getting ready to act.
As usual however, they are talking about doing the wrong thing. In fact, they are
talking about moving in a direction totally opposite of what the vast majority of
Americans want. President Bush has been pushing yet another amnesty program for
illegal aliens. Basically, the president wants to "give a pass" to those who break our
laws. Not only is this discriminatory towards those who have followed the law and
waited their turn to enter our country, but it encourages more people to break the
law, come here illegally, and roll the dice for more amnesty opportunities. This fits
the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different
result.
Fortunately, there has been enough pushback on this projected amnesty project that
Bush II is now talking about a "go slow" approach to allowing illegals to stay here.
This is still inadequate. We have the American President cow-towing to the demands of
the Mexican President, Vicente Fox, who wants to do away with the border between
Mexico and the U.S. all together. How does one start to define one's country if there
are no borders?
On top if this slight change in the speed of things, the big changes won't come until
after the 2002 elections. This is typical of Republicans. They are going to wait until
they get the conservative votes, then stab us in the back by opening the flood gates
and allowing our people and our culture to be overrun by aliens who don't care about
our culture, traditions, or even our concepts of government and laws. Specifically,
they don't care about our ideas of self-determination and individualism. These
newcomers will be made voters and they will vote for what is familiar to them: a
government that controls them and gives them "protection" via handouts. This
translates into more interference in our lives and more taxes.
Is our government being open and honest about its intentions? Consider this, after a
meeting between U.S. and Mexican representatives on the movement of Mexican nationals
across our border concerning their legal status and the openness of their ability to
work in the U.S., during the press briefing, only Mexican reporters were allowed at
the briefing. U.S. reporters were barred from attending. First, why are we counseling
with foreigners about how we run our country and control our borders? Why should they
have any say in this matter? And why is it that they were only talking about how to
let Mexicans into the U.S., not how Mexico could help stop the flow of illegals from
Mexico to the U.S.? Second, why don't they want the American press to write about
their meeting? Could there possibly be something to hide? Do they not want the
American public fully informed as to what is going on?
There is something very wrong with this approach to the situation. There is also
something very wrong with the fact that the National Council of La Raza is involved in
these talks, especially since La Raza is associated with the Azatlan movement. Azatlan
is a movement to turn the American Southwest into either an independent, Spanish
speaking nation, or to unite it with Mexico. Who would invite foreigners to populate
their land, replacing the current citizens, especially when they have motives to steal
that land away?
One of the key players in the 1965 immigration act that has born such bad fruit was
Senator Ted Kennedy. Today, this elitist socialist has already made plans for his own
immigration reform bill. His aids say that no matter what the Bush administration
does, it won't go far enough for them. Living in his Yankee, rich, white bread world
of Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy does not know or care what havoc he wreaks upon the rest
of the U.S. His is a mission of one-world government based on communistic enforcement
of modern PC ideals.
Yes, we need to fix the immigration laws, but not the way things are being proposed.
We need to recapture control of our borders. We need to be able to better control who
can enter our country. There is nothing wrong with people coming here to live, but the
citizens of a particular land must be able to control who and how people come into
their land. We need time for those who are here legally to get acclimated and embrace
our way of life. Those who are here illegally need to be shown the door, with no
exceptions. While our military is overseas enforcing our government's views on other
sovereign people, foreigners are overrunning our land. Bring the Army home from
Kosovo, Bosnia, and other distant lands and let them guard our borders.
Will this happen? It is unlikely. There is one thing that gives a sure indication of
how this will all play out. Bush officials have said that if the president doesn't
improve on the 35% of the Hispanic vote he received in 2000, he will lose in 2004. To
quote one staffer, "This isn't a thing you have to convince the president of. He's
real predictable on these issues." However, if Bush turns his back on those of us who
can vote today, he has even a smaller chance of winning tomorrow.
