Not having seen the book I can only speculate that it may have told them that they would be forgiven for drinking adult beverages. Pigs and pig products are a bit worse. I remember back in the 60s when I was stationed in Turkey for a year, The turks made some fine wine, and they drank it and an uzo(sp) drink called rocki. This stuff worked in our zippo lighters when we ran out of lighter fuel. What it comes down to is how strongly you believe in certain dogma and how strongly your culture inforces certain dogma.
