A THANKSGIVING MESSAGE
With all its faults, America is a grand country. It may be getting more
difficult to see it that way, but if we take a quick look around the
world,
we might realize that we have it pretty good, comparatively speaking.
Most
precious of all is our Constitution, which is becoming more precious with
every passing day, as pressures grow to increase law enforcement powers
at
the expense of individual liberties. On Thursday, as you enjoy your
Thanksgiving holiday (may you also enjoy the company of family, friends,
and
loved ones) and reflect on all you have to be thankful for, keep this in
mind.
This year's Thanksgiving has a dual significance. It will also mark the
38th
anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Having
just
experienced another national tragedy, now would be a good time to reflect
on
the events of November 22, 1963 and what we might learn from them.
News of the assassination spread quickly and exclusively held the
nation's
attention for several days. Within hours, a suspect was identified and
his
life story was examined in the media. Lee Harvey Oswald, as it turned
out,
had spent time in the Soviet Union. Oswald never made it to trial
because
he was killed in Dallas Police headquarters two days later. This didn't
sit
well with the American public and speculation of conspiracy has persisted
ever since.
After so many years, it is clear to anyone who wishes to make a thorough
and
open-minded study of the case that Oswald was a mere pawn in a conspiracy
masterminded by an American drug cartel. Various "conspiracy theorists"
have
pointed fingers at the CIA, the mafia, or Texas oil tycoons, but these
have
usually failed to see the larger picture or the common thread. The
illegal
drug business has been big business for many years. To put matters
simply,
the Kennedy administration threatened the most powerful drug syndicate in
the US - which included many "legitimate" businessmen, politicians, and
intelligence officers as well as "mobsters" - and this syndicate
responded
in a very decisive fashion. (Further reading:

After Kennedy's death, President Johnson led this country into a war in
Vietnam during which the very same syndicate expanded its operations in
the
opium-growing regions of Southeast Asia.
Can we find any parallels between November 22 and September 11?
Let's begin with the days and moments preceding the tragedies. In both
cases, US authorities received very explicit warnings coming from
credible
sources that something of that nature is about to happen. What was the
government's response? The 112th Military Intelligence Group near Dallas,
which was planning to participate in routine security support for the
president, was ordered to stand down. Security at Dealey Plaza was
practically non-existent. Will we find that similar orders were given at
Andrews Air Force Base regarding the attack on the Pentagon? Despite
nearly
an hour of advance warning, are we to believe that the military was
unable
to use an Air Force base a mere ten miles away to defend the very symbol
of
America's military might? (Further reading:

Secondly, let us look at the circumstances surrounding the President
during
each crisis. Lyndon Johnson could just about reach up and touch the
bullets
going over his head in Dallas. It made quite a lasting impression on the
man. From that day forward he had no delusions regarding who was really
in
charge. In the September 11th case, threats were made against Air Force
One
using White House codes. These threats were phoned in to the President's
plane as the attacks were unfolding. Was this a similar reminder to
George
Bush of who is really in charge? (Further reading:

Next let us examine where speculation of state sponsorship is pointing.
Immediately after the 1963 assassination, President Johnson and others
hinted that the evidence pointed in the direction of Cuba and reminded
government officials of the 1962 missile crisis in order to make them
willing and eager to accept any alternate explanation from the FBI, no
matter how weak. (Further reading:

Parallels between US relations with Cuba in 1963 and Iraq in 2001 are
striking. Just as the Bay of Pigs invasion left Castro standing stronger
than ever and provided the U.S. with an enemy for many years to come,
Desert
Storm gave Saddam Hussein something to crow about - he stood up to the
United States and lived to tell about it - and provided the U.S. with
someone to fear after the end of the Cold War. George Bush is thought to
have had a role in the Bay of Pigs invasion and the earlier secret arming
of
Fidel Castro as well as Desert Storm and the earlier secret arming of
Iraq.
Iraq and Hussein have endured US-sponsored sanctions and bombings for
many
years , even rumored assassination attempts just as Cuba and Castro have.
Speculation that Iraq was responsible for the Oklahoma City Bombing -
which
speculation is well-supported and has circulated on the internet for many
years - have recently found their way in to the mainstream press. Is
Oklahoma City the Cuban Missile Crisis that the Bush administration is
holding over the heads of a fearful Washington? (Further reading:

Do we recognize a similarity between the current "War on Terrorism" in
the
Central Asian heart of the opium-growing industry on one hand, and on the
other hand President Johnson's "War on Communism" in opium-growing
Southeast
Asia so soon after the assassination of the president by an alleged
communist? Do we see Mohammed Atta's "Islamic extremist" legend falling
apart in the South Florida's bars and strip joints just as Oswald's
"communist" legend fell apart in light of his presence at anti-Castro
paramilitary camps in Louisiana? How many people have noticed that
Southern
Air Transport, the successor to the CIA's opium-transport airline, Air
America, is active in Afghanistan's opium-growing neighbor Uzbekistan?
How
many of us find something disturbing about Richard Secord's reported
visit
to Tashkent? Secord and Southern Air Transport . . . from Saigon to
Tashkent
with a stopover in Ilopango.
Finally, after all is said and done will we realize only years later that
we
have been had and it was all about drug profits?
