Brixton Mosque chairman, Abdul Haq Baker, issued the warning Wednesday. He told the British media there are as many as 1,000 Muslim extremists in Britain. He said at least 100 of them are ready to blow themselves up for their cause. Mr. Reid is accused of trying to light his explosives-packed shoes during a Paris to Miami flight Saturday. Passengers and flight attendants tackled and tied him with seat belts. The plane flew to Boston, where Mr. Reid was arrested. Mr. Baker says Mr. Reid attended the mosque at the same time as Zacarias Moussaoui, a French citizen of Moroccan descent. U.S. authorities have arrested and charged him with conspiracy in connection with the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States. U.S.-based ABC television reported Wednesday that European authorities have evidence Mr. Reid and Mr. Moussaoui trained together in an Osama bin Laden terrorist camp in Afghanistan. U.S. officials say al-Qaida fighters captured in Afghanistan have recognized Mr. Reid's picture and said he trained at one of the camps. But the officials cannot confirm that Mr. Reid is part of al-Qaida. Mr. Baker says Mr. Reid studied in the London mosque in 1998 after converting to Islam. He said Mr. Reid initially held mainstream Islamic views, but was influenced by extremists.
