I am, however, an actual eyewitness, a person who actually was alive in 1965 and personally experienced the blackout. In addition, just the day before yesterday the History Channel coincidentally reported on the 1965 NYC blackout on it's "Wrath of God" series, so my personal recollections were bolstered by the FACTS presented on the show... Which are to whit: 1) the blackout was triggered by an overloaded switch at a Niagara Falls power plant shortly after 5 pm on the evening of November 8th; this overloaded switch caused a 'cascade' effect, as areas within the power grid were plunged into darkness; my area of Connecticut went black at about 5:20, NYC blacked out a few minutes later 2) by 10 pm on the night of the 8th, every area effected by the blackout had had power restored, except for NYC 3) NYC had total power restored by 7am on the morning of the 9th Those are the FACTS of the 1965 NYC blackout. The blackout lasted less than 5 hours for most of the area effected by the blackout; I know, because we had power back in Connecticut just before 10 am that same night. NYC was dark the longest, but even there the blackout only lasted less than 14 hours, not the 36 hours you stated in your post.
