SOAD: "THEY'RE WATCHING US!"
Metallers in CIA scare. Ooh.
14.feb.02
System Of A Down reckon the CIA are spying on them, PlayLouder is amused to
report.
The band, whose 'Toxicity' LP sat atop the US charts on September 11th
reckon they're "subversive" and compare themselves to John Lennon and the
Doors in an interview with Kerrang! this week.
"The Doors were seen as subversive," noted the band's Serj Tankian. "John
Lennon was seen as subversive, and he was only preaching love and
revolution. Being seen as subversive is [a] perception thing and I don't
think most people see us as subversive and if they do it's those who are
looking at it from that angle, those that are running the show.
"I think they've had a file on me for a long time, but it doesn't matter.
Sometimes I get flak for saying what's on my mind. But if I stop saying
that, then what do I have left?"
What indeed? He's not the only one either. You might remember Thom Yorke
harping on about things that would "shit your brain" were he to reveal them,
and Chilly Gonzales recons "they" have been after him for years. Hell, why
not?
"(You wanted to) Grab a brush and put on a little makeup/ (You wanted to)
Hide the scars to fade away the shake up/ (You wanted to) Why'd you leave
the keys up on the table?/ (You wanted to)" TALK!
