Part II
Another area of inquiry that may be quite important
relates to the writings of such men as Paul Wolfowitz,
Samuel Huntington and Zbigniev Brezhenski. The calls
for a broad program of US intervention around the
planet and the willingness to risk a clash of
civilizations in light of the need to acquire and
dominate the natural resources of the Eurasian
landmass
are so consistent with current Bush foreign politicies
as to constitute a blueprint for action.
These writings suggest an ulterior motive for our
actions in the world in response to the 911 attack
that
goes far beyond the normal requirements of
proportionality under Just War Theory. They justify a
course of conduct that is dismissive of the UN Charter
provision conferring primary responsible for the
maintainese of international peace to the Security
Council.
Shortly after the events of 911, this author spoke
wiht several colleagues about theneed for a Citizens
Commisision of Inquiry. The purpose of such a body
was to insure the accuracy of information going out to
the public in light of the past history of cover-ups
that have marked the National Security Era of Cold War
scandals from the McCarthy era thru the Kennedy
assassination on to Watergate, IranContra, the Clinton
scandals and now the current tragedy.
Such a Commission of inquiry could be composed of
noted
journalists, clergy, retired military, academics,
independent politicians and others with solid public
reputations for integrity.
As the half-year anniversary of the tragedy
approaches, the need for an objective investigation
continues. If Congress and the press fail to perform
their roles, than it will be up to the citizenry to
evoke their inherent rights of sovereignty as
articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the
10th amendment to undertake such a difficult but
essential task.
This paper is a call to citizenship and responsibility
for all patriotic Americans. We owe it to those who
have fought in the past to preserve our liberties as
well as to the young men and women of today who are
now
deployed across the globe in our name.
History will record the true story of what happened
here only 180 days ago. But decades, yeah centuries
from now, who among us will be noted as having risen
to the task of evaluating what occurred?
We need to investigate 911: the time for those who
read this to make it happen is now.
