              Time to Investigate
                by Richard Scheck

Six months after the tragic events of 911, the first
glimmerings of doubt regarding the official
explanation
of what happened that day have begun to emerge. All
around the edges of official truth, a smattering of
inconsistencies have started to appear.

In light of this new evidence and the traditional need
to investigate Pearl Harbor and JFK type events, the
requirement of a formal investigation is obvious.

Altho the Senate and House have signed off on a joint
Congrssional inquiry to begin this spring, concern
regarding the objectivity of this approach has been
expressed because of the man chosen to head the
inquiry. Britt Snider, a career CIA officer and close
friend of current CIA director Tenet, has been
criticised as a poor choice in light of his prior
association with the agency and leader he will be
asked
to evaluate.

Some of the evidence that has been creeking into
public view for evaluation includes the following;

1. Reports of terrorist associations with the Saudi
family (Daniel Hopsickcer);

2. Reports of the extensive Israeli spying activity
in the US by "art students" whose parents were in the
Mossad or Israeli army (numerous sources);

3. Failure of the massive $30 billion US intelligence
system to have advanced knowlege of the terrorists
plans;

4. Failure of the existing NORAD, FAA and military
systems to intercept any, and particularly the third
(Pentagon) hijacked aircraft as required by
established
procedures;

5. The connection of Enron and the other oil
companies with the expanding war in Afganistan in
light of the importance of that country to the
construction of oil and gas pipelines to tap the
estimated $5 triillion in Caspian Sea resources;

6. The apparent conflict of interest between the Bush
family with its financial connections to the OBL
family and the Saudi royal familly (Carlyle group)
with
the pursuit of the war on terrorism;

7. The failure of Congress to fulfill its
constitutional role of oversight, appropriations and
war making in light of the expanding war on terror;

8. The lack of evaluation of war goals and exit
strategy in conjunction with msission creep and nation
building;

9. Failure of the Bush administration to implement
the biparitsan recommendations of the Hart-Rudman
Commisison (2001) which predicted significant
terrorist acts in the near future;

10. The FAA report of 5pm, 9/11 indicating the death
by gunshot of a passenger of Flight 77 which was
subsequently denied by the government and airline
despirte its specificity and apparent authenticity;

11. Evidence of stock manipulation and gold sales just
prior to the attacks;

12. Clinton era scandals involving Marc Rich, Roger
Tamraz, Enron and others relating to foreign policy,
Central Asia and oil;

13. The possible obstruction of why the WTC towers
collapsed by the prompt recycling of its structural
steel was just reported in Congressional testimony by
a leading investigator from the American Society of
Civil Engineers;

14. The role of Central Asian drug growing and other
criminal enterprises in the region (illegal arms
sales,
prostitution, etc.) in connection with US foreign
policy;

15. The role of excessive secrecy as official policy
in the name of national security by officials such as
Vp Cheney, Attorney General Ashcroft and head of
Homeland Security Tom Ridge needs to be explored;

16. The recycling of descredited Iran Contra era
personnel such as Eliot Abrams, John Poindexter, Otto
Reich, John Negroponte and Richard Armitrage needs to
be looked at in light of all of the above;

17. The role of Al-Quida in support of Albanian
forces
in Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia as revealed in the war
crimes trial of Slobodan Milosevich.

These and other factual and policy issues cry out for
a fair and open investigation. The excessive secrecy
evidenced by this administartion in virtually all
aspects of the conduct of the war make this need even
greater in light of the traditions of free press which
we are fighting to preserve.

The positioning of US troops in Central Asia, the
Philippines, Yemen, Somailia, Columbia and many other
areas in combination with NATO expansion, unilateral
withdrawal from the ABM Treaty, war threats against
the
axis of evil (especially Iraq) all smack of a Pax
Americana that has Europe, China, RUssia and the
Islamic world understanbly concerned abvout the
hegemonic instincts of the current administration.
