-Caveat Lector- Wiesenthal Center issues France, Belgium travel advisory
By Ha'aretz Service For the first time ever, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, the international Jewish human rights organization, issued a travel advisory to its 400,000 constituent members on Friday, urging "extreme caution" when traveling to France and Belgium. The advisory comes in the wake of a rising tide of anti-Jewish violence in Europe, and refers to "the arson attacks against synagogues, Jewish institutions, beatings of Jewish school children and pedestrians and other acts of threats and intimidation in Paris, Marseilles, Lyon and other communities." In Belgium, the Wiesenthal Center says in explaining the travel advisory, the Chief Rabbi of Belgium was assaulted on the streets of Brussels and there are reports that religious Jews have been advised not to wear skullcaps while walking in public.
