-Caveat Lector- Composted human waste is waste that has been left to sit for about a year, just like cow manure, before being used. I don't know if it gets any other treatment or is just left out in the sun. One should never put raw manure -- from any species -- on plants. Besides the sanitation factor, you'll kill the plant.
You can find out about composting toilets at http://www.compostingtoilet.org/ . I used to know somebody who had one. They do take up a lot of space in the basement, but they don't use water. It would save my family approx. 32 gallons of water a day (4 people, average 5 times a day, probably more for the kids, 1.6 gallons per flush) if we had one.
