MAJOR ISRAELI DEFENSE FIRM REPORTS PROFITS
TEL AVIV [MENL] -- Israel's largest non-government defense firm
reports rising revenues and profits so far this year. Elbit Systems recorded net
profits
of $11.7 million for the first quarter of 2002. This was an increase over the $10.6
million in first quarter profits last year. The company said revenues reached $185.8
million during the first three months of this year. The figure during the same period
last year was $181.7 million. Elbit Systems, which focuses on upgrades of air, land
and naval platforms, reported an orders backlog of $1.603 billion as of March 31,
2002. At the end of 2001 the orders backlog was $1.566 billion.
