We eagerly await a jury verdict, and believe it will
come in the next two
days.
The Judi Bari Website is being updated daily with a new
feature called
Jury Watch, which appears at the top of the home page.
Today's installment
is copied below.
** Wednesday, May 29 -- Jury continues complicated task

The jury deliberated today until 3 PM without asking
any further questions
or reaching a final verdict on the 8th day of
deliberations. Yesterday
they asked a question that suggested they have reached
a verdict on some,
perhaps most, of the claims. They will resume
deliberating Thursday from
8:30 AM to 2:30PM.
Judge Wilken told the jurors at the start that this
trial might require
two months of their time. This is the eighth week, and
it is unlikely that
the judge will require deliberations to continue beyond
Friday at the
latest, even if they can't reach a unanimous verdict on
every one of the
nine main claims against the seven remaining
defendants. The jurors were
told yesterday that any claims they can't reach a
verdict on will have to
be retried, which may have increased their motivation
to decide them all.
If they succeed, a verdict could be announced at any
time. If not, the
judge may well keep them deliberating through Friday
before accepting a
partial verdict.
There is reason for hope that the jury will find
substantially in our
favor. It is inconceivable that they would take so much
time if they were
simply going to let the defendants off -- they could
have done that in a
day or two. Finding in favor of the plaintiffs requires
much more work and
time, because damages would likely be awarded to each
plaintiff for each
claim, and then the damages must be apportioned to each
of the defendants.
For an analysis of the Jury's complex task, requiring
up to 188 separate
unanimous decisions to decide all claims in favor of
Judi and Darryl and
award them damages, go

There's also an archive of Jury Watch that traces the
day-by-day
developments since the case went to the jury. You'll
find it

Bari website, so

There's another website with loads of information about
the case.

The San Francisco Independent Media Center has
dedicated a feature section
to coverage of the Bari vs. FBI trial. The site
contains all the press
releases and updates put out by the Bari vs. FBI Media
Center, which is
attached to the Oakland law offices of the Bari-Cherney
legal team. The
site also contains courtroom art by K. Rudin as well as
photos, audio and
video files from various sources. They include
streaming audio and video
from last Friday's Judi Bari Day rally at the Oakland
Federal Building.
The principle of the Indymedia movement is that anyone
can publish their
articles, images, audio and video files on the
Internet. There is a
Newswire section in the right column where people have
done just that.
Caveat lector (reader beware), however, because anyone
can post anything
using any pseudonym they choose, so there's plenty of
troll droppings
there too.

"The Judi Bari Bombshell" is the cover feature article
in the May 29, 2002
issue of the San Francisco Bay Guardian, a major
alternative weekly. It's
a good -- but far from perfect -- take on the trial.
A couple of problems with the article:

 1) The author relied on biased "research assistance"
for the undeserved
negative portrayal of our splendid legal team.
 2) He left out one of the most key pieces of
evidence, one that was
talked about repeatedly throughout the trial, the
ball-bearing motion
device that triggered the explosion under Judi
Bari's car seat.
Investigators found a large ball bearing in the
street at the bomb
scene, and FBI lab expert David R. Williams
identified it as part of a
motion trigger that made sure the bomb would explode
only when the car
was in motion. No reasonable investigator would
conclude that Judi Bari
was knowingly carrying such a bomb under her own car
seat, as the FBI
 and OPD claimed.

The Judi Bari bombshell

Some truly startling revelations emerged from the Earth
First! trial in
Oakland.
By A.C. Thompson

ALL THE EVIDENCE in the Judi Bari bombing trial has
been presented, and
yet, maddeningly, the questions linger. We still don't
know who planted
the homemade, nail-studded pipe bomb in Bari's Subaru.
And we still don't
have conclusive proof that a secret law enforcement
cabal tried to frame
Bari and cohort Darryl Cherney.
At press time, the jury, which began deliberating May
17, had yet to reach
a verdict, and attorneys for the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the
Oakland Police Department were still fighting to get
the case dismissed.
But whatever happens, the trial, like the Warren
Commission of the 1960s,
or the Iran-Contra hearings, will do little to quell
the conspiracy
theories.
Still, the six-week legal skirmish was hardly a snooze.
Quite the
contrary: some fairly blockbuster revelations leaked
out - and for the
most part, the daily papers have ignored them.
