That's good to know. Honestly, we haven't talked about tractors
lately. The last serious conversation about tractors occurred before
we
moved up here, and at that time, he was a different person. I mean,
while he has never been as gung ho on homesteading as me, he
really
wasn't sure about the move here back then. Now, he loves living
here as
much as I do, and after several years of this life, he sees things
differently now. He still isn't quite there, though. He is changing
though. Lately, he was been taking various things(like the chipper
and
push mower) to work to work on them since work is slow. He has
gained
quite a lot of confidence in his ability to work on small engines.
Before we moved, he was the type to take the weedeater into the
shop for
repair, now he at least attempts to fix it himself. That's progress.
But a tractor...I don't know. I just haven't even brought up the
subject since we can't afford one.
I think it is more of a situation of "I don't want to do this in my
spare time, too" than "I can't". He has fixed our neighbor's tractor
on
several occassions, so I am sure he is capable. He did use
George's
tools because he doesn't keep many tools here at the house. I
honestly
don't have a clue as to how many or what kind of tools he actually
owns. With the money he has spent on tools over the years, he
should be
well set for anything, but I don't know.
The main reason for no tractor is financial. I am sure that I could
get
over my anti-machinery thing, just as I wised up about the benefits
of a
wood splitter. Now, I don't know what we would do without it! I
suppose I just tend to hold to the simpler things, whether it is
realistic for me or not. Having that woodsplitter has saved so many
injuries and time. I am sure that owning a tractor would be equally
satisfying.

I feel certain that if we ever did buy a tractor, that Ron would also do
the same as far as buying a service manual. I would find it hard to
believe that someone who was ranked second in the nation by
Mazda Motors
of America as a service tech would have much difficulty working on
a
tractor if he wanted. But then, I am proud of him and I am biased.

Oh no Dan, I appreciate your comments and input. All the technical
stuff about tractors is over my head at this point, but I have a file on
tractors that I keep just for input should we ever come to that point.
