Canada and U.S. Agencies Shut Down More Fraudulent
Telemarketing Operations
The Toronto Strategic Partnership conducted a series of raids on an
organized criminal advance-fee
loan group on Thursday June 6th, 2002, that netted 11 persons, 4 guns
including 3 semi-automatic
handguns and a Mac 10 sub-machine gun, a machete, a bullet proof
"police" vest and police
identification, a quantity of marihuana and $66,000.00 (CDN) cash. The
raids were the culmination
of an 18 month investigation, dubbed Project MILE HIGH, into more than
20 fraudulent loan and
associated insurance companies operating in the city.
