A MEMORIAL EVENT AND NO ONE CAME by Barry Chamish November 3, 2002 It is Friday, Nov. 1, three days before the seventh anniversary of the Rabin assassination. We pick up all the weekend newspapers and brace ourselves for their lying coverage. We know there will be long deceitful articles in Yediot Ahronot, Maariv, Haaretz, Kol Ha'ir, and the Jerusalem Post. We take them home and start flipping. And flipping. And flipping. And there is nothing, nothing at all. Rabin's memorial day is three days off and it is, for the first time, being totally ignored by the Israeli mainstream media. We try again, there has to be a mistake. Now things become downright eerie. Where are the columnists with their tearful memories of Rabin? Where is the commentary from his colleagues in the army or Labor Party? Where is the feigned outrage against Yigal Amir, Bibi Netanyahu, rabbis, settlers, right wing voters and the rest of the scapegoats? Rabin not only disappeared from the mainstream press, he's all but off the airwaves too. His memorial service will not be covered by the popular TV channels One and Two as is always the case. Instead it has been relegated to the unwatched failure, Channel Ten. And there is only one ad for the service and it's in the far left local paper Kol Ha'ir. And who is sponsoring the service? The government, no? The Rabin Center For Israel Studies, ditto, no? It's the marginal pro-suicide group, Peace Now. Here is proof that Israel's media is controlled by the secret services (Shabak). Without a policy directive, how do you get all the editors of all the newspapers to quash Rabin memorial stories? How do you convince all the columnists to write about something, anything else? How do you persuade both main TV stations to keep their cameras away from the commemorative ceremony? Now I'm thinking, what will Rabin's family think when they buy the papers and there's not a word about the anniversary of his murder? What will the employees of his research center assume as they leaf and leaf and leaf and there's nothing to read about their deceased mentor? Will they conclude that Rabin is forgotten and leave it at that; or will they reach the right conclusion that the media now knows the truth that Amir did not murder Rabin and the media is jumping headfirst into a cover-up by neglect to protect the likes of Carmi Gillon and Shimon Peres who did organize the deed? Now let us look at the uncontrolled media. Hatsofe ran a powerful piece by Boaz Haetzni which begins, "A large part of the Israeli public no longer buys the government's version of the Rabin assassination." Amnon Lord analyses Yigal Amir's defence summation of his trial in Makor Rishon and asserts that, "Long before the conspiracy theory was ever heard of, Amir's lawyers summarized his case by proving he could not have shot Rabin, using hard evidentiary facts. And the judges chose not to acknowledge their arguments." And look who strongly covered the newly reopened Avishai Raviv trial; the Jerusalem Post. Their reporter Etgar Lefkovitz quoted a witness at length, a policeman who testified that the Shabak told him to bury his interrogation of Hagai Amir, Yigal's brother, because it deeply implicated Raviv in the assassination. And that has to be one of the primary reasons who the Shabak and the media they control are panicking. Because the: Avishai Raviv Trial Resumes Today The trial of Shabak agent provacateur Avivshai Raviv resumes in Jerusalem today. Raviv is charged with having foreknowledge of Yigal Amir's plans to assassinate Yitzhak Rabin. Although Amir's trial happened quickly, Raviv's trial has been subjected to repeated postponements over the last 7 years. Many people believe that Raviv, working for Shabak, was part of a larger plan to have Rabin murdered, and the delays were intended to prevent the evidence of these allegations from coming to light. And the cover-up is taking place on other sinister planes as well. Yaacov Werker, chairman of the Public Committee To Reinvestigate The Rabin Assassination and I were asked by Channels Ten and Two, and Maariv to supply them with copies of the infamous video of Amir's police interrogation where he details the real conspiracy and finally admits that he was the patsy for the real murderers. None of them are returning the tapes and that leaves us empty-handed. But I have a receipt given to me by Channel Ten, and if the tape isn't returned tomorrow, I'm going to the police and reporting them for theft. Then there is a wave of incitement taking place against the residents of Judea and Samaria and anyone else who can be falsely blamed for Rabin's death. The biggest provocation took place when the army and police gathered in force to remove residents from a farm in Samaria. The headlines were: Settlers Wound 17 Policemen And Soldiers, and the like. This was a bald-faced lie. Twice this week Maariv published the infamous photomontage of Rabin in an SS uniform, stating that this was an example of how the Right incited Rabin's murder.
