> I've replaced the Imake build system in ctwm with a CMake structure. OK, it hasn't been quite even a full week yet, but, additional comments or discussion? Branch is updated past the landing of Stefan's cleanups today.
Making this transition would rather accomplish the task of narrowing platforms we need to worry about, as historical stuff won't be supported by cmake, and many moderately aged systems that are may not have it installed, which raises the bar significantly. Which is not altogether a positive. OTOH, I think we definitely need to let imake take its place in history, rather than forcing it into the present. I think it's a worthwhile tradeoff moving forward. But then, I'm the one that did the work, so of course I would. The old releases aren't going anywhere and still exist for people on systems that don't run cmake, so they're not totally out in the cold, but they do get cut off from future stuff. For those that do handle it, we get cleaner config, better finding of tools and libs, and a lot more futureproofness. So, if you think the hardship for old systems is too high a price, better speak up! Lacking negative voices, or at least a strong belief that there's some place it'll fail that we should keep caring about, I'm liable to go all executive-decision on it next week. -- Matthew Fuller (MF4839) | [email protected] Systems/Network Administrator | http://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/ On the Internet, nobody can hear you scream.
