Considering its longevity, it's obviously an Act Of Tom ;-) I do love removing code. But MaxWindowSize as a config param is perfectly sensible, so it's gotta have _some_ default. X's inherent 32767 by itself would be another possibility. But, what was there has been there for decades, and you pointed out reasonable logic to what it was doing.
