Well, I have bindings for just about all of the characters, but it's probably one of the modifiers or contexts that's getting interpreted incorrectly. I was able to determine which of the letters worked in xterm by actually trying them :-)

I assume you mean you lost "a", not "r", right?

Correct. I'll try to do a little further debugging later today. But this problem was widely reported for the previous alphas as well.
