Nice that you included my patch. I really don't understand why ctwm
used to draw a large window, covering the entire screen, before
switching to another workspace. Was the original idea to hide the
deleting and drawing of new windows during the operation? Anyone?

Yes the idea was to have a nicer workspace switching. But now X servers are
so fast that it is no longer necessary.
