I agree. But we could start with documenting the results and suggestions
somwhere, of what you can do to maximize transfer performance. Like for
example setting SO_SNDBUF to several megabytes on windows - if that truly
helps.
I'm very interested if the speed-problem you described initially when doing
cross country transfers over the internet is solved by the patch you wrote.
