It would be good to update the docs on External Core before 6.10 is released; most importantly, by updating the paper at: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/papers/core.ps.gz to point to the current version of the External Core specification, which can be found in the darcs repo under docs/ext-core.
Also, the manual section at http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/latest/html/users_guide/ext-core.html needs some obvious changes (it refers to the fptools/ directory, and it should say that GHC can't currently read in .hcr files.) I can make those changes once the core.ps link gets updated.
