According to Davide Dozza, Chairman of Associazione PLIO:
"The numbers are exactly the same. If it's just a coincidence, it's a
very strange one. Downloads of the Italian version of OpenOffice.org were
800.000 in 2006 and 1.800.000 in 2007: the difference is exactly in the million
of Italians that - according to Microsoft - have downloaded the trial version
of Office 2007. We think that these users have decided to switch to
OpenOffice.org as soon as they have realized that the effort to get used to the
new ribbon interface is higher than the effort to migrate to the open source
suite. In 2007, the majority of information requests has been about the
compatibility with Windows Vista, and the trend stays unchanged in

-
Today, the German press issued a series of
articles regarding the release of OpenOffice.org 3.0. The digest of all these
articles is that 3.0 has been "officially delayed" from summer to
fall. Basically, that's not correct. In the development of every application,
internal timelines are being set and changed, especially when the estimated
release date is far in the future. Thus, I'd never issued any official
statement yet on when OpenOffice.org 3.0 will be released and what features it
will contain. There is still a lot to be determined.

We
expect OpenOffice.org 3.0 to be ready by the mid
of September, but this is not a fixed date, only an estimation. The same goes
for the feature set. Be ensured that we'll keep you up to date as soon as we
have more detailed and secured information. We're as excited to see 3.0 as you
are!

PLIO, the volunteer association behind the Italian version of

number of Italians that have downloaded Microsoft Office 2007 Trial Version -
just ove one million, according to a Microsoft Italia press release (<a

- and the number of new downloads of OpenOffice.org in 2007.

According
to Davide Dozza, Chairman of Associazione PLIO: "The numbers are exactly
the same. If it's just a coincidence, it's a very strange one. Downloads of the
Italian version of OpenOffice.org were 800.000 in 2006 and 1.800.000 in 2007:
the difference is exactly in the million of Italians that - according to
Microsoft - have downloaded the trial version of Office 2007. We think that
these users have decided to switch to OpenOffice.org as soon as they have
realized that the effort to get used to the new ribbon interface is higher than
the effort to migrate to the open source suite. In 2007, the majority of
information requests has been about the compatibility with Windows Vista, and
the trend stays unchanged in 2008".
 <div class="wlWriterSmartContent"

-Today, the German press issued a series of articles regarding the release of
OpenOffice.org 3.0. The digest of all these articles is that 3.0 has been
"officially delayed" from summer to fall. Basically, that's not correct. In the
development of every application, internal timelines are being set and changed,
especially when the estimated release date is far in the future. Thus, I'd
never issued any official statement yet on when OpenOffice.org 3.0 will be
released and what features it will contain. There is still a lot to be
determined.

We expect OpenOffice.org 3.0 to be
ready by the mid of September, but this is not a fixed date, only an
estimation. The same goes for the feature set. Be ensured that we'll keep you
up to date as soon as we have more detailed and secured information. We're as
excited to see 3.0 as you are!

the incredible and funny coincidence between the number of Italians that have

+

One million of Italians downloads
Microsoft Office 2007 Trial Version and one million of Italians migrates to
OpenOffice.org

PLIO, the volunteer
association behind the Italian version of OpenOffice.org, underlines the
incredible and funny coincidence between the number of Italians that have
downloaded Microsoft Office 2007 Trial Version - just ove one million,
according to a Microsoft Italia press release (http://www.microsoft.com/italy/stampa/comunicati_stampa/gen08/1401_office.mspx)
- and the number of new downloads of OpenOffice.org in 2007.

We think that these users have decided to switch to
OpenOffice.org as soon as they have realized that the effort to get used to the
new ribbon interface is higher than the effort to migrate to the open source
suite. In 2007, the majority of information requests has been about the
compatibility with Windows Vista, and the trend stays unchanged in
2008".
 <div class="wlWriterSmartContent"

+
"Adding FastReport VCL to your application is a
breeze. You need to put several necessary components on the visual form, then
connect to needed data sources and make a report form. It's as easy as working
in Corel Draw. The end user who got FastReport VCL in an application can edit
templates and available reports, convert reports to 15 formats (such as PDF,
XLS, RTF, and ODF), and send reports by email directly from the
application."

While this makes for a brilliant community, it also makes it
interesting to come up with a contest that will encourage outstanding
contributions in any of these fields. Plus of course when there is a corporate
sponsor, there is a legal / compliance / regulatory interest to keep on board.
However, for a share of a million dollars, it’s worth putting in the
effort. We’re nearly there - keep an eye open for the
announcement!

-
OOo Marketeers: When will OpenOffice.org 3.0 be released?

-

-
Today, the German press issued a series of articles
regarding the release of OpenOffice.org 3.0. The digest of all these articles
is that 3.0 has been "officially delayed" from summer to fall.

We're as excited to see 3.0 as you
are!
