Jon. First try to copy MEPIS cd was on laptop with Mepis on hdrive with 2.6.7 kernel. Used K3B.0.11.14 app. Would copy and abort and freeze. It filled up hard drive which had over 1.5 gig free. Tried again but quit. CDRW was recognized. fstab had /proc/bus/usbfs dev mode 0666. I had selected to copy to hard drive and simulate writing it before burning. Tried several different media. Tried 2x speed. Had option to clone or copy CD, and chose each with same results. If you need more info, I'll try it again.
Carl. Tried desktop with xandros 2.0 with 2.4.22-x1 SMP kernel and roast program.
# lsmod showed usb-uhci 23920 0 unused. scsi_mod 58908 4[sd_mod
usb-storage sr_mod ide-scsi] usb-storage 64000 1 used.
/etc/devices /devices.inf has cdrom.2device=/dev/cdroms/cdrom1 driver=sr_mod Manu = IOMEGA model=ZIPCD 650 usb scsi_id=1:0:0:0 (this is correct id)
This is my first attempt to copy cd on Linux and must be doing something wrong, or Linux doesn't like the IOMEGA ZIPCD 650 usb. drive. Will bring it to meeting. Wanted to know if others had success or otherwise with this drive.
Anthony.

In order to find answers for you, I need details. Please post: 1) Linux Distro Name 2) Linux kernel version ( do $ uname -a). I need this to find out if there is a USB problem. 3) The program you were using to do the CD burning.
Try and post your/var/log/messages (only the portion relevant to your crash).
Tried MEPIS K3 program on laptop, and Roast program on Xandros 2.0. Was distressing as I had to delete stuff to get room on hard drive of laptop since the aborted reads filled up hard drive. And, had to delete SUSe and Xandros 1 on desktop, and reinstall Xandros 2.0 to get room on hard drive to store cd. Tried "clone" and "copy cd"(don't know difference), but wouldn't work Even more distressing, tried it on old W98 computer with Nero5, and it copied MEPIS successfully, at 2x. Help. Tony
Given the limited info; this is the only bug report I could find and it's from 9 months ago. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/beta/show_bug.cgi?id=121997From Bugzilla Helper:User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pt-BR; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040207 Firefox/0.8
Description of problem: Attaching a ZIP CD-RW 640 to any USB port (direct, not via hub), usb_storage identifies correctly the device. It is registered to /dev/sr0 and /dev/scd0. But IT IS NOT registered to /dev/sg0.
This way, it is possible to mount and read CD's in this driver, but it is not possible to write CDs. _______________________________________________ CWE-LUG mailing list http://www.cwelug.org/ [email protected] http://lists.firepipe.net/listinfo/cwe-lug
