1. Is it better to get at the insides(PCI card terminals) from the bottom, or the keyboard? It looks awfully busy inside.
No single answer - depends on the case design.
2. Where does one find hidden screws holding it together? I took all the drives and battery out.
Try looking for screws hidden under stickers - you should feel a depression in the sticker.
3. Any words of advice?
Look for snap-together sections - try gently prying along the seams (e.g. top/bottom).
