There are more opportunities in Chicago, but a ton of Bell Labs castoffs
(like me) to fill them.
I'm beginning to think that we need to forget the "sell yourself to the
Fortune 500" contracting model, and even the "try to break through the
Microsoft-afflicted" consulting model and start providing goods and
services on our own. I seem to recall some studies that a good programmer
is up to 400 times as production (not just 400%) as a bad one, and I think
we have lots of underutilized good ones.
