On that note, this month's Advanced LUG will be a repeat. We are going
to create a Wiki using Ruby on Rails, AJAX and Rinda. From scratch.
Should take about 30-45 minutes. The on-line video does more than this
in 15 minutes. But I am slower, and they are using Mac OS/X. :(

Ruby is an advanced O-O scripting language. Rails is a web application
framework built on Ruby.

AJAX is the stuff GMail and Google maps uses. So in our wiki, things
like the Preview button work w/o doing a page refresh. Also true of the
edit button.

Rinda is Ruby's take on the Linda programming language. Actually it is
an implementation of Tuplespaces on Distrbuted Ruby. This will be our
wiki's persistance mechanism. A wiki w/o a DB!

Skeptical? Can I do this in under an hour? Come out and see. Monday,
6:30 - 9:00 Brentwood BreadCo.

Actually, it is the elegance of the Ruby language and well thought out
design of Rails that makes it possible. No real thought other than your
app. And you will be up and running on Rails with little or no Ruby or
other web application experience. It might help to know a little Perl,
or Python or shell scripts beforehand.
