I think your solution would be great if I could edit the boot sequence.

And you can. Highlight the line that begins with "kernel ...". Press the letter 'e' You should now be able to edit the line. Move to the end of the line and type " 3". That's a space followed by the number 3. After that, press the ESC key and then the letter 'b' to boot.

Let us know if that works, or even if it doesn't.
