rip cd to wav using grip & then convert to ogg:

(yes, i wrote it)

http://linuxreviews.org/howtos/cdrecording/index.html.en#toc10

why not ogg instead of mp3? ogg isn't encumbered by patents, like mp3 is, it
sounds great, & almost anything on your linux box will play it. so you
wouldn't use lame, you'd use oggenc.

if you want the good (re: illegal 'cause of stupid copyright laws & the
willingness of congress to bend over for the entertainment cabals) software
for multimedia, add the following line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file:

# Marillat
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main

then:

apt-get update

then try this:

apt-get install libdvdcss2 okle ogle w32codecs mplayer-586

bam! now you can play dvds & most windows-based multimedia. okle is a dvd
player for kde; ogle for gnome. mplayer plays everything, including dvds.

there's a million other great things from Marillat's repository. too bad our
unjust laws make 'em illegal.

"The Constitution supposes, what the History of all governments demonstrates,
that the Executive is the branch of power most interested in war, and most
prone to it. It has accordingly with studied care vested the question of war
to the Legislature."
