fn+delete is forward-delete character.

First you have to copy.  Here are the four possible scenarios:

1. X11 to X11
Copy: highlight
Paste: option+button1

2. OS X to OS X
Copy: highlight cmd+c
Paste: cmd+v

3.  X11 to OS X
Copy: highlight cmd+c
Paste: cmd+v

4. OS X to X11
Copy: highlight cmd+c
Paste: option+button1

Mac OS X does support three-button and scroll-wheel mice.
