I need your help. A bud's wife lost ALL! of her pictures of her two kids over the last 3 years. This is a somewhat sophisticated computer guy (her husband.) He should have at least known better. We got a fair amount of them back, but when we checked her PC, it was loaded with malware and hadn't been patched.
Taking a cue from Stephen Covey, there really isn't a general OS-agnostic guide for the average PC user. So I'm writing one. I have 6 so far. I am asking y'all to help me out. We can make this a "good thing" that people can remember. Why 7? 7 +/- 2 is the optimal number of things people can remember at one time, as posited by Miller in 1956. 7 digit phone numbers, 7 items on a form, etc. Any others? Any changes? Backup your stuff Save your stuff often Keep your system patched Avoid Microsoft products (Windows, IE) Use common sense for password security Use common sense when going online (email+surfing vs. crummy low-life scum) ?
