This is redundant. Instead say "Use a firewall". Even the simple
firewall that exists in their dsl modem.

I would be more specific. Namely use a password that is at least 8
characters long and is a mixture of upper and  lower case letters,
digits and punctuation.

Never allow root logins and use PAM or sudo..
